Bombing
in Turkey
November 2003
The Muslim Women’s
League expresses our condolences for the loss of the innocent civilians in
the recent bombings of a bank and British consulate as well as the
synagogues in Turkey.
Islam is a religion of
peace and does not promote acts which harm others including acts of
violence resulting in the loss of human life.
God reveals the following Quranic verse:
"…
Whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption
in the earth, it shall be as if be had killed all mankind, and whoso
saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all
mankind." (S.V:32)
The recent bombings of
the synagogues in Turkey on the Jewish Sabbath signifies that those that
commit treacherous acts of violence know no boundaries and have no regard
for the sanctity of a house of worship.
The bombs exploded outside the Neve Shalom synagogue and the Beth
Israel synagogue where several worshippers were injured and approximately
23 were killed.
It is those places of
worship that we hold sacred where believers, Jews, Christians and Muslims
seek to worship their Lord, Creator and Sustainer.
It is in peace and submission to His will that we offer our prayers
(standing, sitting or kneeling) in mosques, churches and synagogues.
These are places to be held to the highest degree: sacred and
protected from any type of violence or treachery.
It is up to each of us as believers in the One True God, to protect
each other’s right to worship as well as the places of worship, in a
manner that is consistent with God’s commands.
God reveals in the Quran:
(They are) those who
have been expelled from their homes in defiance of right, (For no cause)
except that they say, “Our Lord is God” Did not God check one set of
people by means of another, there would surely have been pulled down
monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques, in which the name of God is
commemorated in abundant measure. God
will certainly aid those who aid His (cause): for verily God is Full of
strength, Exalted in Might, (able to enforce His Will) (S.XXII 40)
Our Lord the Cherisher
and Sustainer, we pray He may guide us to the right path and strengthen
our conviction that we as a nation of people may live together in peace
and harmony and join the rest of brethren around the world in solidarity
against all that is evil and runs counter to reason.
Religion was meant to guide us all to endorsing and establishing
values that work toward enhancing our relations and strengthening our
character to embody the true meaning of righteousness.
The Quranic verse reveals………
It is not righteousness
that ye turn your faces Towards East or West: But it is righteousness to
believe in God and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book and the
Messengers. …………And to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering)
and adversity….. Such are
the people of truth, the God-fearing.
(S. II 177)
Let us be firm in
joining together and work to end this violence and establish peace in all
corners of the globe…
