shelters are not a new concept. "You can't be
everything to everybody as a program. No matter how
hard we try," said Karen Tautfest, director of
shelter and advocacy service programs at the YWCA in
Tacoma.

Winner
of Khutba Contest
- MWL is proud to announce that its first khutba,
delivered recently at the Islamic Center of Southern
California by Jihad Turk and submitted for the
"International Khutba Contest," won the first prize and
$1000. The contest was established in honor of al-Hajj
Malik el-Shabazz (Malcolm X) by an emerging
organization, Muslims for Progressive Values, to
encourage other American Muslims to follow in his
footsteps and to consider seriously the task of
preparing sermons that not only reinforce and restate
faith, but teach, uplift, and inspire.
